Islaam and Science

All the praises and thanks be to Allaah, Sustainer of the Universe, and blessing and salutation to be the most distinguish of the Messengers and foremost among the Prophets, our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allaah be on him and on his wives, children and Companions.

For some time I have been an arch nemesis of mainly Pseudo-Muslims and/or also of some Muslims, whose ignorance is apparent, but they never cease to stop their rhetoric claiming scientific proofs in the Glorious Qur’aan. I have even authored an article on this subject. Let me cite some facts as reference in a nutshell titled “Islaam and Science” that clearly show my beliefs on the subject matter. Nevertheless, I would continue to criticize those ignorant Muslims and/or pseudo-Muslims, who solely parrot the mantra of scientific facts. Again, Glorious Qur’aan is a Book of guidance!

Means of travel

Surah An-Nahl 8

And (He has created) horses, mules and donkeys, for you to ride and as an adornment. And He creates (other) things of which you have no knowledge.

In the above Ayaah آيه 16:6, Allaah said about His perfect power that He creates such things which human does not even know. Therefore, beside what is mentioned in the Ayaah آيه 16:6 the second phrase وَيَخْلُقُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُون [And He creates (other) things of which you have no knowledge.] explains what we have today, in form of ships, cars, buses, spacecrafts, rockets, missiles and shuttles etc. that is used by the humans as means of transportation. Men have built and/or invented them. But Allaah has inspired the men and/or put the ideas in men’s minds. This, however, is not an end. Because no one knows what other modes of conveyance Allaah will inspire men to produce and/or invent. Thus, the Glorious Qur’aan has confirmed the different modes of transportation more than fourteen hundred years ago!

Reading the Glorious Qur’aan’s Ayaat آيات 21:81; 34:12 and 38:36 we learn about the blessings upon Sulaymaan حضرت سليمان عليه السلام that Allaah how Allaah subjected the wind to him (حضرت سليمان عليه السلام) and how he covered a month’s roundtrip distance in a day. For instance, he (حضرت سليمان عليه السلام) sent his throne and his army by air from Damascus دمشق and delivered them in a short time (about half a day) at Istakhar استخر. This was a month’s journey then, even for a fast rider. We have now the aeroplanes doing the same thing, but the Glorious Qur’aan confirmed the means of conveyance by subjecting the wind to Sulaymaan (حضرت سليمان عليه السلام) enabling him to send his throne, army and equipment to any destination by air within hours.

Surah Al-Israa 1

Glorified (and Exalted) be He (Allâh) (above all that (evil) they associate with Him) {1} Who took His slave (Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) for a journey by night from Al-Masjid-al-Harâm (at Makkah) to Al-Masjid-al-Aqsâ (in Jerusalem), the neighborhood whereof We have blessed, in order that We might show him (Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم) of Our Ayât (proofs, evidence, lessons, signs, etc.). Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer {2} .

{2} (V.17: 1) Narrated Jâbir bin ‘Abdullâh رضي الله عنهما that he heard Allâh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم saying, "When the people of Quraish did not believe me (i.e. in the story of my Isrâ’ - (Night Journey)), I stood up in Al-Hijr and Allâh displayed Jerusalem in front of me, and I began describing it to them while I was looking at it. (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.5, Hadith No.226).

The Ayaah آيه 17:1 of Glorious Qur’aan is an account of the night of Miraj معراج (the ascent to the Heavens). Allaah made Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم cover the distance of months between Makkah مكه and Bayat-al-Muqqadis بيت المقدس (in minutes) and then to Heavens back to Makkah مكه in the same night.

When Quraysh belied Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم {see Hadeeth حديث {2} above} and Allaah made this possible → (I stood up in Al-Hijr and Allâh displayed Jerusalem in front of me, and I began describing it to them while I was looking at it). This was the live and/or satellite television, which Islaam and/or Glorious Qur’aan made known more than fourteen centuries ago.

Air attack & bombing

Surah Al-Fil

And He made them like (an empty field of) stalks (of which the corn has been eaten up by cattle). {1}   Did He not make their plot go astray? And He sent against them birds, in flocks, striking them with stones of Sijjîl (baked clay). And He made them like (an empty field of) stalks (of which the corn has been eaten up by cattle).

{1} (V.105: 5) The story of the army of the Elephants (the Qur’ân 105:1-5). This incident happened during the period of the birth-year of Prophet Muhammad Abrahah Al-Ashram was the governor of Yemen on behalf of the king of Ethiopia (as Yemen was a part of the Ethiopian kingdom). He (Abrahah) thought to build a house (like the Ka‘bah at Makkah) in San‘a (the capital of Yemen) and call the Arabs to perform the pilgrimage there in San‘a instead of the Ka‘bah (Al-Bait Al-Harâm) in Makkah, with the intention of diverting the trade and benefits from Makkah to Yemen. He presented his idea to the king of Ethiopia who agreed to his idea. So the house (church) was built and he named it Al-Qullais; there was no church of its like at that time. Then a man from the Quraish tribe of Makkah came there and was infuriated by it, so he relieved his nature (stools and urine) in it, soiled its walls and went away. When Abrahah Al-Ashram saw that, he could not control his anger and raised an army to invade Makkah and demolish the Ka‘bah. He had in that army thirteen elephants and amongst them was an elephant called Mahmûd, which was the biggest of them. So that army proceeded and none amongst the Arab tribes that faced them (fought against them) but was killed and defeated, till it approached near Makkah. Then there took place negotiations between Abrahah Al-Ashram and the chief of Makkah (Abdul Muttalib bin Hâshim, the grandfather of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم), and it was concluded that Abrahah would restore the camels of Abdul Muttalib which he had taken away, and then he (Abrahah Al-Ashram) would decide himself as regards the Ka‘bah. Abdul Muttalib ordered the men of Makkah to evacuate the city and go to the top of the mountains along with their wives and children in case some harm should come to them from the invading oppressors. Then that army moved towards Makkah till they reached valley Muhassir. While the army was marching towards Makkah, in the middle of the valley, suddenly it was overtaken by flocks of birds, flocks after flocks, air-raiding that army with small stones slightly bigger than a lentil seed. There never fell a stone on a soldier except it dissolved his flesh and burst it into pieces. So they perished with a total destruction. Abrahah Al-Ashram fled away while his flesh was bursting into pieces till he died on the way (back to Yemen). Such was the victory bestowed by Allâh, (the All-Majestic, All-Powerful) to the people of Makkah and such was the protection provided by Him for His House (Ka’bah in Makkah). (See Tafsîr Ibn Kathir, Sûrah Al-Fîl).

This is the air attack and bombing that we know from the Glorious Qur’aan, which even took place before the birth of Prophet Muhammad By the way we also learn through this that the idolaters of Makkah مكه believed in God (Allaah), but, in spite of that, had three hundred sixty idols on the Ka’bah كعبه whom they worshipped as well.

Wireless Communication

Ibn Umar رضی الله عنه reported that Umar bin Khattab رضی الله عنه (2nd Khalifah خليفه) sent off an army (to Nahawand) and appointed Sariyah رضی الله عنه as commander over it. One day, Umar رضی الله عنه was delivering the Friday خطبه (sermon) in the Masjid-e-Nabwi, when he suddenly began to say in a loud voice, “O’ Sariyah! Keep near the mountain.” Some days after this incident a messenger came from the army and met Umar رضی الله عنه and said. “ O commander of the faithful! The enemy attacked us and almost defeated us when we suddenly heard some one call out, ‘O’ Sariyah! Keep near the mountain.’ So we put the mountain behind us and Allaah defeated the enemy.

Four marvelous points are reported in the above narrative.

  1. Being able to see from Madinah
  2. Transmitting the voice from Madinah مدينه to far away battle field, which,
  3. Everyone in the Muslim army heard, and
  4. The army was victorious because of this wireless transmission of voice

Islaam invented the wireless concept more than fourteen centuries ago, which does not need battery and instrument like modern equipments.

In conclusion, I must reiterate that the above few citations are hardly a drop in ocean. Fact of the matter is that countless proofs from Glorious Qur’aan and/or Ahadeeth احاديث can be presented on the subject matter of Islaam and science, which would conclusively establish the truthfulness of Islaam and Glorious Qur’aan and existence of God (Allaah). But, again, Glorious Qur’aan is not a book of science, Glorious Qur’aan is the Book of Guidance!
