Is there a birth narrative of “Jesus” in Qur’aan?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

الحمدلله رب العالمين والصلوة والسلام على اشرف الانبياء وسيدالمرسلين نبينا محمد صل ا لله عليه وعلى آله واصحابه وازواجه اجمعين - امابعد

Thanks to be Allaah, Sustainer of the Universe, and blessing and salutation to be the most distinguish of the Messengers and foremost among the Prophets, our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allaah be on him and on his wives, children and Companions.

Let us examine the forgeries and fantasies of Christian missionary Sam Shamoun who has insulted the intelligence of his readers in a desperate attempt to pull a fast one. In this refutation I will ignore all non-Islaamic sources/references used by Christian missionary Sam Shamoun including the quotes of non-Muslim authors, because a religion is judged by its scripture (Period).

Christian missionary Sam Shamoun wrote in his absurd article full of forgeries and ignorance, while desperately trying to prove the vaginal conception of Jesus in the Glorious Qur’aan. As I have stated above that there is NO Jesus in the Glorious Qur’aan, however, the Ayaat quoted by Shamoun are the birth narrative of Isa Ibn Maryam عليه السلام. Many things have been copied and/or inserted in the Bible after the revelation of the Glorious Qur’aan, especially in the Christian Bible with forgeries. Because the New Testament never existed centuries after the revelation of the Glorious Qur’aan. And the available fragments of different gospels were under lock and key of Christian clergy and Christians were not even allowed to possess the Bible. In fact, it was a crime to possess the Bible until 13th century. Until then some churches have only part of gospel of John and other have part or pieces of other gospel/s. Nonetheless, had Shamoun been honest, he would have used the right method to approach this issue rather using English translations to stupefy the readers.

Shamoun wrote:

And (remember) her who guarded her SEXUAL ORGAN (Arabic- farjahaa): We breathed into her from Our Spirit, and We made her and her son a Sign for all people. S. 21:91

And Mary the daughter of 'Imran, who guarded her SEXUAL ORGAN (Arabic- farjahaa) and We breathed INTO IT of Our spirit; and she testified to the truth of the words of her Lord and of His revelations, and was one of the devout (servants). S. 66:12

Ibn Kathir provides additional evidence for the very graphic and distasteful nature of the Quranic birth narratives. In his comments on S. 66:12, Ibn Kathir writes:

<And Maryam, the daughter of 'Imran who guarded her chastity (PRIVATE PART).> meaning who protected and purified her honor, by being chaste and free of immorality,

<And We breathed INTO IT (PRIVATE PART) through Our Ruh,> meaning, through the angel Jibril. Allah sent the angel Jibril to Maryam, and he came to her in the shape of a man in every respect. Allah commanded him TO BLOW into a gap of her garment and that breath went into her womb THROUGH HER PRIVATE PART; this is how 'Isa was conceived. This is why Allah said here,

<And We breathed INTO IT through Our Ruh, and she testified to the truth of her Lords Kalimat, and His Kutub,> meaning His decree and His legislation. (Tafsir Ibn Kathir - Abridged, Volume 10, Surat At-Tagabun to the end of the Qur'an, pp. 75-76; bold and capital emphasis ours)

Ibn Kathir makes the following comments in reference to S. 19:22-23:

"Allah, the Exalted, informs about Maryam that when Jibril had spoken to her about what Allah said, she accepted the decree of Allah. Many scholars of the predecessors (Salaf) have mentioned that at this point the angel (who was Jibril) blew into the opening of her garment that she was wearing. Then the breath descended until it entered INTO HER VAGINA and she conceived by the leave of Allah." (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Abridged, Volume 6, Surat Al-Isra', Verse 39 To the end of Surat Al-Mu'minun, first edition July 2000, p. 244; bold and capital emphasis ours)

Ibn Kathir's notes on S. 2:223 also help us to see the very graphic nature of the term farj:

<as Allah has ordained for you.>

this refers to Al-Farj (THE VAGINA), as Ibn 'Abbas, Mujahid and other scholars have stated. Therefore, anal sex is prohibited, as we will further emphasize afterwards, Allah willing ...”

Response! Shamoun’s rhetoric may appear to some readers as authentic and accurate, but irony of his lengthy article is that it is not even close to the truth. The real forgery lies in the transliteration of Arabic words presented by Shamoun. Let us take his first quote keeping in mind that even Shamoun has quoted/admitted as Isa.

Shamoun writes, And (remember) her who guarded her SEXUAL ORGAN (Arabic- farjahaa): We breathed into her from Our Spirit, and We made her and her son a Sign for all people. S. 21:91.

Let us look at the original source i.e. the Glorious Qur’aan,

Surah Al-Anbiyaa 91

وَالَّتِي أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهَا مِنْ رُوحِنَا وَجَعَلْنَاهَا وَابْنَهَا آيَةً لِلْعَالَمِينَ

And she who guarded her chastity (Virgin Maryam): We breathed into (the sleeves of) her (shirt or garment) (through Our Rűh - Jibrîl (Gabriel)), {1} and We made her and her son (‘Îsâ) a sign for Al-‘Âlamîn (the mankind and jinn).

{1} (V.21: 91) It is said that Jibrael (Gabriel) had merely breathed in the sleeve of Maryam’s shirt and thus she conceived.

Readers must know that the Dictionary meaning for the word فَرَجَ used in the Above Ayaah is/are:  to open, open up, open out, spread (out), unfold, open wide, widen; to part, separate, diverge, divaricate, draw apart, spread apart; to space out; to split, cleave, gap, make an opening (in or between) whereas the Shariah meaning of this word is “chastity.” In order to understand the Glorious Qur’aan one must use Islaamic sources and must know the Islaamic Shariah rules of elucidation and interpretation! Christian missionary Sam Shamoun has used deception while quoting Ibn Khateer, by capitalizing and making bold the words “private parts” that are in parentheses. Let me reproduce exactly what Ibn Khatir has stated at page 75-76 of volume 10 of his abridged Tafseer.

وَمَرْيَمَ ابْنَتَ عِمْرَانَ الَّتِي أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا

And Maryam, the daughter of ‘Imrân who guarded her chastity. (private parts)

The Ayaah quoted by Sam Shamoun is read as follows with exact translations:

Surah At-Tahrim 12

وَمَرْيَمَ ابْنَتَ عِمْرَانَ الَّتِي أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهِ مِنْ رُوحِنَا وَصَدَّقَتْ بِكَلِمَاتِ رَبِّهَا وَكُتُبِهِ وَكَانَتْ مِنَ الْقَانِتِينَ

And Maryam, the daughter of ‘Imrân who guarded her chastity. And We breathed into (the sleeve of her shirt or her garment) through Our Rűh (i.e. Jibrîl (Gabriel) {1} ), and she testified to the truth of the Words of her Lord (i.e. believed in the Words of Allâh: "Be!" - and he was; that is ‘Îsâ, son of Maryam as a Messenger of Allâh), and (also believed in) His Scriptures, and she was of the Qânitűn (i.e. obedient to Allâh) {2} .

{1} (V.66: 12) "And (remember) she who guarded her chastity (Virgin Maryam), We breathed into (the sleeves of) her (shirt or garment) (through Our Rűh (Jibrîl - Gabriel))*, and We made her and her son (‘Îsâ) a sign for Al-‘Âlamîn (mankind and jinn)." (The Qur’ân, (V.21: 91)) * It is said that Jibrîl (Gabriel) had merely breathed in the sleeve of Maryam’s shirt, and thus she conceived.

{2} (V.66: 12) The Statement of Allâh عز وجل: ‘And Allâh has set forth an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh ... (up to) ... and she was of the obedient to Allâh.’ (V.66: 11 and 12). Narrated Abű Műsâ رضي الله عنه: Allâh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Many amongst men reached (the level of) perfection but none amongst the women reached this level except Âsiyah, Pharaoh’s wife, and Maryam, the daughter of ‘Imrân. And no doubt, the superiority of ‘Âishah to other women is like the superiority of Tharid (i.e. a meat and bread dish) to other meals." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol. 4, Hadith No.623).

Following is the original Tafseer Ibn Khatir in Arabic for the same Ayaah (verse).

Shamoun’s 2nd quote is,

Ibn Kathir makes the following comments in reference to S. 19:22-23:

"Allah, the Exalted, informs about Maryam that when Jibrîl had spoken to her about what Allah said, she accepted the decree of Allah.

This is a self-defeating argument that cannot be taken as conclusive, since according to Shamoun’s own quote it says that I quote again: “Many scholars of the predecessors (Salaf) have mentioned that at this point the angel (who was Jibril) blew into the opening of her garment that she was wearing.” Again, it cannot be accepted as vaginal conception of Isa Ibn Maryam عليه السلام. For vaginal conception penetration and ejaculation are the two conditions. Even in today’s age we have a separate term for certain women i.e. artificial insemination, which is in my understanding, is done through vagina, but still is not called vaginal conception.

Shamoun’s 3rd quote is based on outright ignorance, forgery and deception. Because the Ayaah 2:223 has nothing to do anything with the Ayaat he has quoted earlier. Nonetheless, I will expose his ignorance and forgery both. Shamoun wrote:

Ibn Kathir's notes on S. 2:223 also help us to see the very graphic nature of the term farj:

<as Allah has ordained for you.>

this refers to Al-Farj (THE VAGINA), as Ibn 'Abbas, Mujahid and other scholars have stated. Therefore, anal sex is prohibited, as we will further emphasize afterwards, Allah willing ...”

The word in question is not a part of Ayaah 2:223, rather it has been used in the Ahadeeth and Tafseer Ibn Khatir, but is it not the same word used in Ayaat 21:91; 19:22-23 and 66:12. First let me quote the original Ayaah 2:223 and then the word used in Tafseer Ibn Khatir that I quote,

Surah Al-Baqarah 223

نِسَاؤُكُمْ حَرْثٌ لَكُمْ فَأْتُوا حَرْثَكُمْ أَنَّى شِئْتُمْ وَقَدِّمُوا لِأَنْفُسِكُمْ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّكُمْ مُلَاقُوهُ وَبَشِّرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth, {1} when or how you will, and send (good deeds, or ask Allâh to bestow upon you pious offspring) for your ownselves beforehand. And fear Allâh, and know that you are to meet Him (in the Hereafter), and give good tidings to the believers (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم)

{1} (V.2: 223): have sexual relations with your wives in any manner as long as it is in the vagina and not in the anus.

فَقَالَ رَسُول اللَّه - صَلَّى اللَّه عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - " مُقْبِلَة وَمُدْبِرَة إِذَا كَانَ ذَلِكَ فِي الْفَرْج "

The Dictionary meaning of word فَرْج is vulva, pudendum (means: vul·va (vľl“v…) n., pl. vul·vae (-v¶). The external genital organs of the female, including the labia majora, labia minora, clitoris, and vestibule of the vagina. And pu·den·dum (py›-dµn“d…m) n., pl. pu·den·da (-d…). The human external genitalia, especially of a woman. Often used in the plural. [Latin, neuter gerundive of pud¶re, to make or be ashamed.] --pu·den“dal (-dµn“d…l) adj.

Now notice the difference in these two words side by side: فَرْج & فَرَجَ, they are not the same words with similar meanings. The Ayaah 2:223 in fact talks about sexual intercourse between husband and wife, therefore, this Ayaah (2:223) has explicitly used the word vagina.

Shamoun faces another dilemma, which is, the word used in Ayaat  (21:91 & 66:12) quoted by Shamoun to pull a fast one on his readers; the word is فَنَفَخْنَا (means: then We breathed) immediately right after the word فَرْجَهَا (means: her chastity). The root letters are ن ف خ  and the word نَفَخَ means to blow, puff. Therefore, the phrase نَفَخَ فيه رُوحاً أو حَيَاةً would mean: to breathe life in (to), infuse life in (to), revive, reanimate; to animate, vivify, enliven, inspirit. How can this be taken as vaginal conception, is beyond me. But I am afraid that it wouldn’t be wise to have Shamoun give anyone CPR to revive him/her as Shamoun’s own logic lead us to conclude that he might be breathing (CPR) in some one’s ass or vagina to revive him/her.

Conclusion!

It is the Bible, in fact, that tells us the actual vaginal conception of Jesus. The website “answering-islam” and/or Christian missionary Sam Shamoun has desperately tried to distort the facts found the Glorious Qur’aan to obscure and obfuscate the truth of Islaam. But as we can see that Shamoun has failed as always. Attacking Islaam always backfire upon Christians, this is about time that they should take a heed.

Update

Friday, May 06, 2005

After the publication of the above refutation, the website “answering-islam” has quietly removed the absurd article and instead of that a broken link is left there for a long time and as of today. This is the only way, Sam Shamoun and/or website “answering-islam” could have saved the face.

Update

Tuesday, May 17, 2005

Surprise, surprise and surprise, usual typical Christian missionary tactics: The broken link for a long time has resurrected after our update above on May 06, 2005. It is rather good for readers to read and compare the facts that whether the Bible contains the literal vaginal conception account of Jesus or it is the Glorious Qur’aan. Readers can also notice now in much better fashion that Christian missionary Sam Shamoun of website “answering-islam.org” is ignorant of Arabic and Glorious Qur’aan.

Vaginal Birth Narrative of Jesus

Biblical account about the conception of Jesus leading to his birth is absolutely sexually explicit and graphic from total human point of view. Thus, after reading that no sane person will even give it a thought to be inspired by the God, let alone believing in that. Let us examine Biblical verses on this subject that we find in the gospel according to Luke:

Luke {KJV}

1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
Luke 1:28: New American Standard Bible (NASB)

And coming in, he said to her,
New King James Version (NKJV)
28And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!"[1]
Footnotes

1:28 NU-Text omits blessed are you among women.

American Standard Version (ASV)

28 And he came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee.

Young's Literal Translation (YLT)

28 And the messenger having come in unto her, said, `Hail, favoured one, the Lord [is] with thee; blessed [art] thou among women;'

Darby Translation (DARBY)

And the angel came in to her, and said, Hail, [thou] favoured one! the Lord [is] with thee: [blessed art *thou* amongst women].

Wycliffe New Testament (WYC)

28 And the angel entered to her, and said, Hail, full of grace; the Lord is with thee; blessed be thou among women.

To further cement our claim that the above statements about Mary’s sexual encounter with an alleged “angel” was not an inspiration by God.  It was rather documented from human point of view suggesting explicitly that Mary had sex, as in all quotations cited above from the different Bibles (versions) it is explicitly and exclusively stated with an absolute human touch that “the so-called angel and/or messenger(i) entered her, means penetrated in Mary’s vagina (ii) had orgasm inside her (iii) and/or had ejaculation. For further proof let us examine other verses in the Bible used for identical implication, as we read in,

Deuteronomy 22 {KJV}

22:13 If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her,

Deuteronomy 25 {KJV}

25:5 If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband's brother unto her.

Genesis 38 {KJV}

38:8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

Similar verses are found in the Bible at many places. In the above verses we notice that verb *go is used in injunctions and/or clarification etc. When a phrase/sentence begins with verbs like go & come followed by in, in unto, entered in, entered unto, entered unto her, came into her etcetera that is explicitly means a sex act with penetration and ejaculation/orgasm.
