The Divine Khilafa’at خلافت (Caliphate)!

By: Shahid Bin Waheed

All the praises and thanks be to Allaah, Sustainer of the Universe, and blessing and salutation to be the most distinguish of the Messengers and foremost among the Prophets, our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allaah be on him and on his wives, children and Companions.

In this treatise I will inSha Allaah establish with proof from the Glorious Qur’aan that the Caliphate of the four rightly guided Caliphs was a Divine Caliphate (Khilafa’at خلافت راشده). Also read: Fulfillment of a Prophesy of Qur’aan and a Prophecy of the Bible.

Qur’aanic Prophecy About the Rightly Guided Caliphs and its Fulfillment!

Surah Al-Hajj 40-41

Those who have been expelled from their homes unjustly only because they said: "Our Lord is Allâh." For had it not been that Allâh checks one set of people by means of another, monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques, wherein the Name of Allâh is mentioned much would surely have been pulled down. Verily, Allâh will help those who help His (Cause). Truly, Allâh is All-Strong, All-Mighty. Those (Muslim rulers) who, if We give them power in the land, (they) enjoin Iqamat-as-Salât {1} (i.e. to perform the five compulsory congregational Salât (prayers) (the males in mosques)), to pay the Zakât and they enjoin Al-Ma‘rűf (i.e. Islâmic Monotheism and all that Islâm orders one to do), and forbid Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief, polytheism and all that Islâm has forbidden) (i.e. they make the Qur’ân as the law of their country in all the spheres of life). And with Allâh rests the end of (all) matters (of creatures).

{1} (V.22: 41): A) Iqâmat-as-Salât: Performing of Salât (prayers) It means that: a) Every Muslim, male or female, is obliged to offer his Salât (prayers) regularly five times a day at the specified times; the male in the mosque in congregation and the female at home. As the Prophetصلى الله عليه وسلم has said: Order your children to perform Salât (prayer) at the age of seven and beat them (about it) at the age of ten. The chief (of a family, town, tribe, etc.) and the Muslim rulers of a country are held responsible before Allâh in case of non-fulfillment of this obligation by the Muslims under their authority. b) One must offer the Salât (prayers) as the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم used to offer them with all their rules and regulations. i.e., standing, bowing, prostrating, sitting, etc. As he صلى الله عليه وسلم has said: "Offer your Salât (prayers) the way you see me offering them (Hadîth No.352, Vol. 9, Sahih Al-Bukhârî)." (For the characteristics of the Salât (prayer) of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم see Sahih Al-Bukhârî, Vol.1, Hadîth Nos. 702, 703,704, 723, 786 and 787]. B) Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "No Salât (prayer) is heavier (harder) for the hypocrites than the Fajr and the ‘Ishâ prayers, but if they knew the reward for these Salât (prayers) at their respective times, they would certainly present themselves (in the mosques) even if they had to crawl." The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم added, "Certainly, I intended (or was about) to order the Mu’adhdhin (call-maker) to pronounce Iqâmah and order a man to lead the Salât (prayer) and then take a fire flame to burn all those (men along with their houses) who had not yet left their houses for the Salât (prayer) (in the mosques)." (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.1, Hadith No.626).

(Those (Muslim rulers) who, if We give them power in the land,(22:41). In this Ayaah (verse) the word الَّذِينَ (those) refers to those people who have been mentioned in the preceding Ayaah (verse 22:40) الَّذِينَ أُخْرِجُوا مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ (Those who have been expelled from their homes unjustly). Referring to such people the Ayaah (verse) says that if they are placed in authority in this world, they will use it to promote good deeds. They will set up prayers, pay the obligatory charity, enjoin people to do good and abstain from evil deeds. These Ayaat were revealed after Hijrah, and Muslims didn’t exercise dominion anywhere on earth. But in the above Ayaat Allaah (SWT) had already made it known that when, at a future date/time, they would come to power and will establish their government, Muslims would serve their Faith in the fashion described in the Ayaah. Hadhrat Uthmaan {RA} said, that this Ayaah praises those people before they actually perform the praise-worthy deeds. This prophecy was fulfilled when the Four Rightly Guided Caliphs (and the Muhajireen (emigrants) from Makkah were indeed those whom the Glorious Qur’aan described by the words الَّذِينَ أُخْرِجُوا (those who were expelled 22:40)), established their government and held sway over vast territories. No race, religion and/or nation individually and/or collectively match this golden era of Islaamic civilization and glory.

Four conditions for success and victory!

Surah An-Nur 52

And whosoever obeys Allâh and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم), fears Allâh, and keeps his duty (to Him) such are the successful.

The Proof of Divine approval and esteem in the sight of Allaah (SWT) of the Four Rightly Guided Khulefa’a (Caliphs)!

Surah An-Nur 55 -57

Allâh has promised those among you who believe and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the land, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practice their religion which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islâm). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieves after this, they are the Fâsiqűn (rebellious, disobedient to Allâh).

Qurtubi has reported on the authority of Abul Aliyah that Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم stayed in Makkah for ten years after commencement of revelation and declaration of Prophethood, during that time there was a constant fear of infidels and disbelievers. Then after the Hijrah to Madinah there was also a ceaseless danger of attacks from the disbelievers. So, someone asked the Prophet  صلى الله عليه وسلم  “Would a time come to us when we will be able to live in peace without wearing our weaponry?” Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم replied, ‘Yes, the time is coming very soon.’ On that occasion Ayaat 24:55-57 were revealed. {Qurtubi and Bahr} Abdullah Ibn Abbas {RA} has said that these Ayaat (verses) relate the promise of Allaah (SWT), which He had made with the Ummah of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم before their creation in the Tawrat (Torah) and the Injeel. {Bahr Muhit}

The above Ayaah (verse 24:55) is also a proof of the Prophethood of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم and because of the forecast he had made came true exactly in the manner he had predicted. The same way it is also a proof of acceptance and approval of the Caliphate of Khulefa’a-e-Rashideen in the sight of Allaah (SWT). The promise made by Allaah (SWT) in Ayaat 22:40-41 with His Messenger and his Ummah was completely fulfilled during the lifetime of four rightly guided Sahabah (Caliphs).

BELIEFS CONCERNING THE SAHABAH (RADHIALLAAHU ANHUM)!

Facts according to Aqaaidul-Islaam!

All the Sahabah-e-Karaam (Radhiallaahu anhum) were fair, just and pious people, especially the Khulfaa-I-Rashideen. They were forgiven for any sin that they might have committed. They were most loving and merciful to one another, strong, powerful and severe against the Disbelievers.

Glorious Qur’aan and the Ahadeeth of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) are replete in bearing testimony that the Sahabah (RA) are virtuous people and are a criterion of truth. The lowest ranking Sahabi (RA) is far greater in rank than most pious follower of Rasulullaah Sallallahu alaihi Wa-sallam. They are most high in rank after the Ambiyaa Alaihi-ussalaam. Love and reverence for all the Sahabah (RA) is an important constituent of Imaan. To follow them is to follow Muhammad (SAW).

1st PROOF from Glorious Qur’aan!

Surah At-Tauba 117

Allâh has forgiven the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم), the Muhâjirűn (Muslim emigrants who left their homes and came to Al-Madinah) and the Ansâr (Muslims of Al-Madinah) who followed him (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) in the time of distress (Tabűk expedition), after the hearts of a party of them had nearly deviated (from the Right Path), but He accepted their repentance. Certainly, He is unto them full of Kindness, Most Merciful.

* Muhajireen and Ansar are that Companions (RA) of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) who stood with our Nabi (SAW) during the hours of hardships, they were people who sought forgiveness and Allaah is pleased with them

2nd PROOF from Glorious Qur’aan!

Surah Al-fat-h 29

Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is the Messenger of Allâh. And those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and falling down prostrate (in prayer), seeking Bounty from Allâh and (His) Good Pleasure. The mark of them (i.e. of their Faith) is on their faces (foreheads) from the traces of prostration (during prayers). This is their description in the Taurât (Torah). But their description in the Injeel (Gospel) is like a (sown) seed which sends forth its shoot, then makes it strong, and becomes thick and it stands straight on its stem, delighting the sowers, that He may enrage the disbelievers with them. Allâh has promised those among them who believe (i.e. all those who follow Islâmic Monotheism, the religion of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم till the Day of Resurrection) and do righteous good deeds, forgiveness and a mighty reward (i.e. Paradise).

3rd PROOF from Glorious Qur’aan!

Surah Al-fat-h 18

Indeed, Allâh was pleased with the believers when they gave the Bai‘ah (pledge) to you (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) under the tree: He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down As-Sakînah (calmness and tranquility) upon them, and He rewarded them with a near victory.

4th PROOF from Glorious Qur’aan!

Surah At-Tauba 100

And the foremost to embrace Islâm of the Muhâjirűn (those who migrated from Makkah to Al-Madinah) and the Ansâr (the citizens of Al-Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhâjirűn ) and also those who followed them exactly (in Faith). Allâh is well pleased with them, as they are well pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.

In the above verse Allaah has mentioned four virtues of the Muhajireen and Ansaar and those who follow them.

1.                  Allaah (SWT) is pleased with them.

2.                  They are pleased with Allaah (SWT).

3.                  They have been given glad tiding of Jannah (Jannat).

4.                  They will remain forever in Jannah (Jannat).

5th PROOF from Glorious Qur’aan!

Surah At-Tauba 20

Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism) and emigrated and strove hard and fought in Allâh’s Cause with their wealth and their lives are far higher in degree with Allâh. They are the successful. {1}

{1} (V.9: 20). a. Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Whoever believes in Allâh and His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم performs Salât (Iqamât-as-Salât) and observes Saum (fasts) during the month of Ramadan, then it will be a promise binding upon Allâh to admit him to Paradise, no matter whether he fights in Allâh’s Cause or remains in the land where he is born." The people said, "O Allâh’s Messenger! Shall we acquaint the people with this good news?" He said, "Paradise has one hundred grades which Allâh has reserved for the Mujahidűn who fight in His Cause, and the distance between each of two grades is like the distance between the heaven and the earth. So, when you ask Allâh (for something), ask for Al-Firdaus which is the middle and highest part of Paradise." (The sub narrator added, "I think the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم also said, ‘Above it (i.e. Al-Firdaus) is the Throne of the Most Gracious (i.e. Allâh), and from it gushes forth the rivers of Paradise)." (Sahih Al Bukhârî, Vol.4, Hadith No.48). b. The wish for martyrdom. Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه: The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "By Him in Whose Hand my soul is! Were it not for some men amongst the believers who dislike to be left behind me, and whom I cannot provide with means of conveyance, I would certainly never remain behind any Sariya (army unit) going out for Jihâd in Allâh’s Cause. By Him in Whose Hand my soul is! I would love to be martyred in Allâh’s Cause and then come back to life, and then get martyred and then come back to life again, and then get martyred and then come back to life again, and then get martyred." (Sahih Al-Bukhâri, Vol.4, Hadith No.54).

6th PROOF from Glorious Qur’aan!

Surah Al-Anfal 74

And those who believed, and emigrated and strove hard in the Cause of Allâh (Al-Jihâd), as well as those who gave (them) asylum and aid - these are the believers in truth, for them is forgiveness and Rizqun Karîm (a generous provision i.e. Paradise).

7th PROOF from Glorious Qur’aan!

Surah At-Tauba 88

But the Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) and those who believed with him (in Islâmic Monotheism) strove hard and fought with their wealth and their lives (in Allâh’s Cause). Such are they for whom are the good things, and it is they who will be successful.

In the above verse (Ayah) Allaah (SWT) has promised FIVE things for those who brought faith with Muhammad Mustafa (SAW).

1.             Good things.

2.              Success.

3.              Gardens

4.               Everlasting abode.

5.       Triumph

These glad tidings are most certainly for the Muhajireen and Ansaar Companions (RA) of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) for they were the first to accept Islaam and have PERFECT Imaan. They (RA) had sacrificed their wealth and their lives for the cause of Islaam and/or Allaah. They (RA) stood with Rasulullaah (SAW) and his cause in the battles of Badr, Uhud, Hudaibiah, conquest of Makkah, and after the demise of Muhammad (SAW) they has upheld the spirit of Jihaad and Islaam, leading to conquests of Rome, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Egypt and more, thus, spreading Islaam to the four corners of the world.

8th PROOF from Glorious Qur’aan!

Surah An-Nur 55

Allâh has promised those among you who believe and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession to (the present rulers) in the land, as He granted it to those before them, and that He will grant them the authority to practice their religion which He has chosen for them (i.e. Islâm). And He will surely give them in exchange a safe security after their fear (provided) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieves after this, they are the Fâsiqűn (rebellious, disobedient to Allâh).

In the above Ayah (verse) Allaah (SWT) has promised FOUR things to the Sahabah (Radhiallaahu Anhum).

1.                  Make them leaders.

2.                  Establish for them their Deen, which Allaah has approved for them.

3.                  Give then safety and peace after fear.

4.                  They will worship only Allaah (SWT).

9th PROOF from Glorious Qur’aan!

Surah Al-fat-h 26

When those who disbelieve had put in their hearts pride and haughtiness - the pride and haughtiness of the time of ignorance, - then Allâh sent down His Sakînah (calmness and tranquility) upon His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) and upon the believers, and made them stick to the word of piety (i.e. none has the right to be worshipped but Allâh); and they were well entitled to it and worthy of it. And Allâh is the All-Knower of everything.

MERITS & VIRTUES OF THE SAHABAH (RADHIALLAAHU ANHUM) IN THE AHADEETH OF RASULULLAAH SALLALLAHU ALAIHI WA SALLAAM!

1st Hadeeth!

“With regard to my Companions, do not make them target after me for your abuse and slander. He who loves them does so due to his love for me, and he who hates them does so because of his hatred for me. He who harms them has harmed me and whosoever causes harm to me has indeed displeased Allaah.”

2nd Hadeeth!

“The like of my Sahabah (RA) in my Ummat/Ummah is like that of salt in food- the food cannot be perfect without salt.”

3rd Hadeeth!

“The Best of the people are those of my time, then those who follow after them, thereafter those who follow after them.”

4th Hadeeth!

“None of you should speak ill of my Sahabah (Companions), for if one amongst you were to spend in charity as much gold as Mount Uhud, it would not amount to as much as one mudd (bushel) or even half a mudd given by a Sahabi (RA).

5th Hadeeth!

“The fire of Jahannum will not touch those, who have seen me, nor those, who have seen those, who had seen me.”

ASHARAH-MUBASHARAH

The TEN Companions of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) who were promised PARADISE in their lifetime!

The TEN most blessed Companions (Ashrah Mubasharah) who were given the glad tiding of Paradise in their lifetime, by the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) that they would dwell in Paradise forever after their death were/are:

1.                 Abu Bakr As-Siddiq

2.                 Umar bin Al-Khattab

3.                 Uthman bin Affan

4.                 Ali Ibn Abi Talib

5.                 Talha bin Ubaidullah

6.                 Zubair bin Al-Awwam

7.                 Abdur Rahman bin ‘Auf

8.                 Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas

9.                 Sa’id bin Zaid

10.            Abu Ubaida bin Al-Jarrah

The above TEN are the best and most noble among Sahabah (Radhiallaahu Anhum) of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW). They had sacrificed their wealth, lives for the cause of Islaam, and learned EVERYTHING from the BEST OF THE CREATIONS, MUHAMMAD (SAW).

The above facts are not even a drop in the ocean, since there is a plethora of facts available. What astonishes that Murtad Osama Abdallah has the nerve to LIE through his teeth about the rightly guided Caliphs, other Companions and wives of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) contrary to Aqaaidul Islaam.

One example of the perfection of Hadhrat Umar bin Al-Khattab {RA} is that ELEVEN Ayaat were revealed for what Umar (RA) suggested to Prophet Muhammad (SAW). That Allaah (SWT) DECREED in His revelation confirming and/or supporting his (Umar {RA}) words, advice and/or heartfelt feelings. The Adhaan (Prayer call) was also the suggestion of Umar (RA). The verses that supported and/or confirmed the words of Umar (RA) are as follows:

1.                 Argument with a Jew in defense of Gibra’il (AS)[Qur’aan 2:97-98].

2.                 Submission to the Prophet (SAW) for station of Ibraheem (AS) in Ka’ba, he made a place     of prayer [Qur’aan 2:125].

3.                 Permission to visit wives during the night in the month of Ramadaan [Qur’aan 2:187].

4.                 Prayer to Allaah for prohibition of liquor/alcohol [Qur’aan 2:219].

5.                 Slaying of a rank hypocrite [Qur’aan 4:65].

6.                 Readiness, as opposed to some others, to proceed for the battle of Badr [Qur’aan 8:5].

7.                 Leading of the hypocrites identified as an enemy of Allaah [Qur’aan 9:87].

8.                 Outright rejection of the most villainous allegation against the Mother of Believers Hadrat Aisha (RA) [Qur’aan 24:6].

9.                 Specification of hours of privacy and retirement [Qur’aan 24:58].

10.             Futility of asking for forgiveness for disbelievers [Qur’aan 63:6].

11.             Argument by the wives of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) [Qur’aan 66:5].
