All the praises and thanks be to Allaah, Sustainer of the Universe, and blessing and salutation to be the most distinguish of the Messengers and foremost among the Prophets, our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allaah be on him and on his wives, children and Companions.

The subject whether “Glorious Qur’aan created or uncreated?” is often brought up by non-Muslims, especially Christian missionaries in their attempt to obscure and obfuscate the truth of Islaam with deliberate false assertion that Qur’aan is created. This treatise will establish using Islaamic creed and references that Glorious Qur’aan is not created.

According to the early religious scholars from among the Companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and their students and the Mujtahidûn, there is a rule to distinguish between the two nouns in the genitive construction: a) When one of the two nouns is Allâh, and the other is a person or a thing, e.g. Allâh’s House (Bait-ullâh); Allâh’s Messenger (Rasul-ullâh): Allâh’s slave (‘Abdullâh): Allâh’s spirit (Rûh-ullâh), the rule for the above words is that the second noun, e.g., house, messenger, slave, spirit is created by Allâh and is honorable in His Sight, and similarly, Allâh’s spirit may be understood as the spirit of Allâh, in fact it is a soul created by Allâh, i.e. ‘Îsâ. And it was His Word: "Be!" -and he was. (i.e. ‘Îsâ was created like Adam). b) But when one of the two is Allâh and the second is neither a person nor a thing, then it is not a created thing but is a quality of Allâh e.g. Allâh’s Knowledge (‘Ilm-ullâh); Allâh’s Life (Hayât-ullâh); Allâh’s Statement (Kalâm-ullâh); Allâh’s Self (Dhat-ullâh).

Imam Malik
"The Qur'an is the Word of Allah. Anyone who says that the Qur'an is created should be beaten and imprisoned until he repents."

Imam Abu Hanifa
"We do not say anything about it. We fear to say anything.' He also said, 'Do not discuss it and do not ever ask about it.'

Imam Shafi'i
I didn't find any ruling by Imam Shafi'i on this subject.

Imam Hanbal
Imam Ahmad did not affirm that the Qur'an is created. In his letter that Imam Ahmad wrote to al-Mutawakkil and is recorded in The History of Islam by adh-Dhahabi, Imam Ahmad pijts out that the discussion on the subject leads to the incalculable of doubts in people's heart, and he shows that in the view of the Salaf the Qur'an is not created. The Qur'an is the Word of Allah and the Word of Allah cannot be considered Allah's creation. The Qur'an is a part of Allah's knowledge and Allah's knowledge is not created.
