Thanks to be Allaah, Sustainer of the Universe, and blessing and salutation to be the most distinguish of the Messengers and foremost among the Prophets, our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allaah be on him and on his wives, children and Companions.
That Surah Al-Baqaraah is remarkable for referring to all FIVE
principles of Islaam in the following Ayaat آيات:
Surah Al-Baqarah 21
O mankind! Worship your Lord (Allāh), Who created you and those who were before you so that you may become Al-Muttaqūn (the pious - See V.2: 2).
Salah
Surah Al-Baqarah 238
Guard strictly (five obligatory) As-Salawāt (the prayers) especially the middle Salāt (i.e. the best prayer - ‘Asr) {1} . And stand before Allāh with obedience (and do not speak to others during the Salāt (prayers)).
{1} (V.2:
238). a) The sin of one who misses the ‘Asr prayer
said, "Whoever misses the ‘Asr
prayers (intentionally), then it is as if
he lost his family and property." (Sahih Al-Bukhāri,
Vol.1, Hadīth No. 527). (b) One who omits (does not offer) the ‘Asr prayer (intentionally): * Narrated Abu Al-Malīh: We were with
Buraidah in a battle on a cloudy day and he said, "Offer the ‘Asr prayer early as the Prophet صلى الله عليه
وسلم said, "Whoever omits
the ‘Asr prayer, all his (good) deeds will be lost." (Sahih Al-Bukhāri, Vol.1, Hadīth
No.528). * i.e. The one who omits (does
not offer) the ‘Asr prayer intentionally until its stated time is over and if he
prays after that time, then it is useless.
Zakah
Surah Al-Baqarah 254
O you who believe! Spend of that
with which We have provided for you, before a Day comes when there will be no
bargaining, nor friendship, nor intercession. And it is the disbelievers who
are the Zālimūn (wrong-doers).
Sawm صوم
Surah Al-Baqarah 183
O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting) {1} is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqūn (the pious - See V.2: 2).
{1} (V.2: 183) As-Saum means fasting i.e.
not to eat or drink or have sexual relations etc. from the Adhān of the Fajr
(early morning) prayer till the sunset.
Hajj حج
Surah Al-Baqarah 196
And perform properly (i.e. all the ceremonies according to the ways of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), the Hajj and ‘Umrah (i.e. the pilgrimage to Makkah) for Allāh. But if you are prevented (from completing them), sacrifice a Hady (animal, i.e. a sheep, a cow, or a camel) such as you can afford, and do not shave your heads until the Hady reaches the place of sacrifice. And whosoever of you is ill or has an ailment in his scalp (necessitating shaving), he must pay a Fidyah (ransom) of either observing Saum (fasts) (three days) or giving Sadaqah (charity - feeding six poor persons) or offering sacrifice (one sheep). Then if you are in safety and whosoever performs the ‘Umrah in the months of Hajj before (performing) the Hajj, (i.e. Hajj-at-Tamattu‘ and Al-Qirān), he must slaughter a Hady such as he can afford, but if he cannot afford it, he should observe Saum (fasts) three days during the Hajj and seven days after his return (to his home), making ten days in all. This is for him whose family is not present at Al-Masjid-Al-Harām (i.e. non-resident of Makkah). And fear Allāh much and know that Allāh is Severe in punishment. {1}
{1} (V.2: 196) Islām demolishes all the previous evil deeds and so does migration (for Allāh’s sake) and Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah). (Al-Lu’lu’ wal Marjān, Vol.1, Ch.52, P.205]. The obligation of performing ‘Umrah and its superiority. Ibn ‘Umar رضي الله عنهما said, Hajj and ‘Umrah are obligatory for everybody." And Ibn ‘Abbās رضي الله عنهما said, ‘Umrah is mentioned in conjunction with Hajj in the Book of Allāh عز وجل: "And perform properly Hajj and ‘Umrah for Allāh." (2:196). Narrated Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه: Allāh’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "(The performance of) ‘Umrah is an expiation for the sins committed (between it and the previous one). And the reward of Hajj Mabrūr (the one accepted by Allāh) is nothing except Paradise." (Sahih Al-Bukhāri, Vol.3, Hadīth No.1).
